NYPD Officers Turn Their Back on de Blasio

A funeral was held at Christ Tabernacle Church in the Glendale neighborhood of Queens for Ralph Ramos, the NYPD officer who was murdered alongside partner Wenjian Liu.  New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio spoke at the funeral, as did Vice President Joe Biden, who gave an emotional speech telling Ramos’ sons how proud their father had been of them.

When Mayor de Blasio began to speak, hundreds of NYPD officers turned their backs in a sign of protest.  de Blasio has been vocal about supporting protests over Eric Garner’s death, as the protests have grown increasingly violent.  Ramos and Liu were shot “in revenge for Eric Garner.”

NYPD Badges Were Placed at Tributes for the Two Officers

The family of NYPD police officer Rafael Ramos have said they forgive Ismaaiyl Brinsley for shooting and killing Ramos and his partner officer, Wenjian Liu.  Ramos’ cousin Ronnie Gonzalez said, “we don’t believe in vengeance, we just forgive,” saying Brinsley was “in God’s hands now” and that the family wanted to remember Ramos instead of the shooter.

Brinsley told two people, “watch what I’m about to do” and told them to follow him on Instagram before he posted a threatening photo.  He then shot his ex-girlfriend near Baltimore, before killing Romas and Liu in Brooklyn and shooting and killing himself at a nearby subway station.
