America took a day to remember those who have given their lives in service of their country in an annual memorial event at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. Numerous politicians and retired soldiers attended the service. A wreath was also laid at the Tomb of the Unknowns dedicated to unknown soldiers who died, and family members came to remember their fallen relatives.
Throughout the country, similar events of remembrance were held. 3,000 volunteers placed America flags on the graves of 120,000 veterans at the Florida National Cemetery, and in New York, a reunion was held for the surviving members of the Tuskegee Airmen. The annual Vicksburg Memorial Parade was held in Mississippi, accompanied by a wreath-laying ceremony.
