America’s Only Prisoner of War Released After 5 Years

Bowe Bergdahl Was Mainly Held in Pakistan

Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl has been released by his Taliban captures, 5 years after he was first taken hostage.  He has remained America’s only prisoner of war, but was finally freed after a controversial deal was struck that released five senior-level Taliban detainees from Guantanamo Bay.  Qatar has agreed to host them for a year.

Bergdahl was captured on July 2nd, 2009 and told his girlfriend to find someone else, which she did.  After learning of his release she asked her mother, “What do I do now?”  His father learned Pashtu in an attempt to communicate with his son through videos he sent to the Taliban, and revealed that Bowe is having trouble understanding English after not hearing it for so long.
