Bernard Jordan Wasn’t About to Let a Nursing Home Stop him From Taking Part in Celebrations Marking an Event He’d Been a Part of

The Pines nursing home in Hove, England, told 89 year-old Bernard Jordan he couldn’t leave to go to Normany for the celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of D-Day.  So, he put his medals on, hid them under a coat, and told the home he was taking a walk.  He then boarded a ferry to France with several other veterans.

The home called the police and a search began, but another veteran soon called to say Jordan was safe in France and he’d return after the celebrations had ended.  When he was interviewed, Jordan said he’s “just wanted to see the show” and asked if he’d be in trouble, he answered, “I might be, but I hope not.”
