The small prairie town of Pilger, Nebraska has been nearly entirely destroyed by two tornadoes, both with wind speeds of about 200mph. One person died in the tornadoes and another 16 are critically injured in the town of only 370 residents that is ironically known as the “Town Too Tuff to Die”.
There were three tornadoes in the area in total, but more may still be confirmed, while two have already been confirmed as being F-4 tornadoes. The nearby town of Stanton was also hit. Stanton and Pilger are about 100 miles northwest of Omaha. One witness described it by saying, “it was like God dragged two fingernails across the land.”
