USA 25 Seconds Away from Round of 16 When Portugal Break Hearts

Jermaine Jones and Tim Howard Can’t Hide their Disappointment After Conceding a Late, Late Equalizer

The USA were leading 2-1 against Portugal, knowing a win would confirm their place in the Round of 16 with a game to spare, when Valera scored with a diving header from a Cristiano Ronaldo cross with 25 seconds left in the match.  Although the US sit in second place heading into their final match against Germany, everything is now up in the air.

If the US tie or defeat Germany, they will move on and escape the “Group of Death”.  But if they lose, they have to hope Portugal and Ghana tie in their match, or Portugal win and their goal difference is able to hold up against the Portuguese.  American fans are going to be in for one tense morning on June 26th, that’s for sure.
