Young NASCAR Driver Killed in Night Race

In a Still from the Video, Kevin Ward Jr. is Seen Approaching Tony Stewart’s Car, Seconds Before he was Struck and Killed

20 year-old old Kevin Ward Jr. was struck and killed by fellow driver Tony Stewart in a night race.  Details are still sketchy, but according to witnesses and a video of the incident. Stewart clipped Ward’s car during the race, sending him into the wall.  Frustrated, Ward climbed out of his car and walked onto the track.  He was then hit by Stewart, who attempted to swerve.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Department says it is investigating the incident, but it is not being treated as a criminal matter.  Stewart was “visibly shaken” but completely cooperative with officials.  Stewart pulled out of a race today and issued a statement saying, “There aren’t words to describe the sadness I feel about the accident that took the life of Kevin Ward Jr.  It’s an emotional time for all involved.”
