James Foley’s heartbreaking final letter that a fellow hostage memorized before his release has been revealed. Over the 13 years he was imprisoned, Danish photojournalist Daniel Rye Ottosen carefully memorized every single word of the lengthy letter and when he was released by ISIS in June, the first call he made was to Foley’s mother, Diane, to recite the letter.
In the letter, Foley mentions how he is optimistic that he will be released in time to celebrate his sister’s wedding in 2015. He also mentions every family member and how much he loves them and what they mean to him. The week before Foley’s execution by ISIS, Diane flew to Copenhagen to meet with Ottosen and thank him, as well as learn more details about her son’s imprisonment.
