An unnamed Spanish nurse has become the first Ebola victim to contract the disease outside of Africa. She was a part of the team that helped treat Spanish missionary Manuel Garcia Viejo, who was brought back to Spain from Sierra Leone after contracting the disease. Viejo died on September 26th after experimental drugs failed to help his fight against the disease.
The Spanish nurse has undergone two separate tests, both of which came back positive. Spain’s Health Ministry held a crisis meeting while waiting for the results of the tests to come back. The emergency room where she went in a hospital in Alcorcon, near Madrid, has since been isolated by police.
