Speaker of the House John Boehner is Now in a Very Powerful Position

After retaining control of two seats in run-offs in Louisiana, the Republican party now hold the most number of seats in Congress since Harry S. Truman’s administration.  The Republicans will have at least 246 House seats in January, tying their post-WWII high.

There is still one race to be decided, in the Tucson, Arizona area.  If the Republicans had to win, it would give them their largest advantage since Herbert Hoover’s administration, in 1929-31.  President Obama now holds the embarrassing distinction of being the two-term president with the most midterm losses.
