Sony has officially canceled the Christmas Day cinematic release of The Interview and “has no further release plans for the film.”  The move comes a day after the hackers, confirmed by US officials to be connected to the North Korean government, threatened an attack similar to 9/11.

The five biggest chains in the US had already decided to pull the movie in fear of an attack.  Meanwhile, New Regency has canceled production of Pyongyang, a movie based on the graphic novel by Guy Delisle.  Steve Carrell was going to play an American living in the North Korean capital.
