Colorado Governor Reveals He Opposes State’s Legalization of Marijuana

Governor Hickenlooper Spoke on CNBC’s “Squawk Box”

Governor John Hickenlooper has revealed he opposed his state’s decision to legalize marijuana in 2012, telling CNBC “If I could have waved a wand the day after the election, I would have reversed it.”  Hickenlooper, a Democrat, said “it was a bad idea” and that Colorado wouldn’t know the true consequences of the legalization for several years.

In 2012, 55% of voters in Colorado chose to legalize marijuana state-wide.  Speaking at a Davos Annual Meeting, Hickenlooper also said “you don’t want to be the first one to do something like this.”  He warned other states to “wait a few years” before trying to legalize it, as to see the consequences in Colorado.
