Survivors Make Final Return on 70th Anniversary of Auschwitz Liberation

Survivors, Joined by Their Families, Walk the Tracks That Brought Them Into the Death Camp Decades Ago.

Over 300 survivors of Auschwitz returned to the site for the last time on the 70th anniversary of their liberation.  This pilgrimage is planned to be their final return, making it even more poignant.  Survivors and their families lit candles and laid wreaths at the infamous “wall of death.”

Several world leaders also attended, and Steven Spielberg, one of the most successful directors of all time, gave a speech condemning the recent rise in antisemitism.  An 84 year-old British grandmother who attended said, “I felt such turmoil, such anger seeing this place again.  But this ceremony was so uplifting that it will be one of the defining memories of my life.”
