Six people are dead and a dozen injured after a train struck a Jeep that was stuck on the tracks just outside of New York City. The Jeep was on the tracks when the gate fell on it, pinning the car down. The driver got out to look at the back of her car and then got back in and attempted to drive away, but the train crashed into the car. The Jeep driver was killed, as well as five passengers in the front of the train.
The train pushed the Jeep about 150 yards down the track before both vehicles burst into flames. The accident occurred about 30 miles northeast of New York City, and involved a Metro-North train. Police are investigating why the car was on the tracks at the time the gate dropped.
