Steve Montador Was Affectionately Known as “Monty” by his Teammates

Steve Montador, a former NHL defenseman, was found dead in his home in Mississauga, Ontario.  Police haven’t released a cause of death, but no foul play is suspected.  He had a history of depression after being plagued by concussions throughout his life.

Montador played for six franchises throughout his career, starting with the Calgary Flames in the 2001-02 season.  He retired after the 2011-12 season after a season-ending concussion.  In his career, he 33 goals and 98 assists in 571 NHL games.
