Luis Figo Reveals Strange 48-Team World Cup Plan

Figo Was the FIFA Player of the Year in 2001

Portuguese legend Luis Figo, seen as potentially the only legitimate threat to Sepp Blatter in the FIFA presidential election, unveiled his plan for revamping the World Cup.  Under Figo’s plan, 48 nations would participate, and two identical 24-team group stages would be held on two continents.

Some of Figo’s other plans include a rugby-style “sin bin”, reverting to the old offside rule, and to distribute more of FIFA’s money towards grassroots soccer.  However, even with the power one of the greatest players in recent times wields, he is still widely expected to lose to Sepp Blatter, the unpopular and corrupt current president who is running for his fifth term.
