The 2015 Oscars were something of a flop, with host Neil Patrick Harris widely criticized and the ratings plummeting 18% from last year, the third lowest-watched ever and the worst ratings in 7 years. Harris stripping down his underwear was seen as crude, as was his joke after director Dana Perry gave a heartfelt speech about her son’s suicide. Harris joked that her dress, which contained fuzzy puffs of fabric took “a lot of balls to wear.”
As for the actual awards, Birdman won Best Picture as expected, with director Gonzalo Inarritu winning Best Director. Eddie Redmayne won Best Actor for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything and Julianne Moore won Best Actress for Still Alice.
