ISIS continued their war on culture as they burned at least 10,000 books and over 700 rare manuscripts from at the Mosul Public Library. Terrorists used homemade bombs to blow up the Iraqi library, with Mosul civilians trying to stop them but ultimately failing.
Some of the books and manuscripts destroyed dated back to the Ottoman Empire, as well as Iraqi newspaper articles going back to the early 1900’s. ISIS first attacked the library in January, smashing locks to enter. They then loaded up thousands of books and replaced them with Islamic texts.
