Governor Mary Fallin Signed the Bill Into Law
Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin has signed into law a bill introducing a nitrogen chamber as an alternative to lethal inject. It involves pumping a chamber full on nitrogen, with a prisoner then left to die with the lack of oxygen. It has been described as “foolproof”, a sharp contrast to Oklahoma’s recent history of horribly botched lethal injections.
The gas chamber now becomes the fourth option for method of death to enact the death penalty, along with lethal injection, electric chair, and firing squad. However, the firing squad is an unlikely fourth option, only in the extremely rare occasion that the other three methods are unavailable.
