Climbers Running as the Landslide Roars Towards Them

The death toll in the devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake centered near Kathmandu, Nepal, has risen to at least 2,500, with officials warning it will still rise dramatically.  Amateur climber Jost Kobusch captured the moment a massive landslide tore down Mount Everest, flattening camps and killing at least 18 climbers and sherpas.

American climber Jon Reiter has relayed the chilling words doctors told him as he helped them tend to the injured on the mountain – “You are just comforting these people. Most of them are not going to survive.”  There are believed to be people still trapped on the mountain waiting for rescue.
