The Baltimore Mayor Said Her Reasoning for the Curfew was to “Ensure Public Peace, Safety, Health, and Welfare”
Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has lifted the citywide curfew after five days. Protests, which were growing more violent every day, has died down after six police officers were charged in the death of Freddie Gray. Mayor Rawlings-Blake said, “my intention was always to not have the curfew in place a day longer than what necessary.”
Alan Dershowitz, a prominent criminal lawyer and professor from Harvard, slammed State Attorney Marilyn Mosby’s decision to charge the six officers as “outrageous and irresponsible”. Other lawyers have publicly stated it will be difficult to get a jury to convict the officers.
