32 year-old Brendan Bostian was driving an Amtrak train 106mph in a 50mph zone near Philadelphia when the train derailed, killing 7 people and injuring over 200. Bostian has been interviewed by police and handed over a blood sample, as well as his cell phone.
However, Bostian gave initial statements to police, but then refused a statement when detectives wanted to talk to him, and brought his lawyer with. The train that derailed didn’t have a safety mechanism called Positive Train Control, which could have prevented the disaster. All Amtrak trains must have the feature by the end of the year.
