A Court Sketch From Tsarnaev’s Sentencing Hearing
Survivors of the Boston Marathon bombing condemned Dzhokar Tsarnaev’s apology before he was sentenced to death. Tsarnaev responded to calls for an apology by saying he was sorry for the pain and suffering he had caused. However, he was seen laughing and joking with his attorney while walking into the courtroom.
Several survivors expressed regret for wanting an apology because of how insincere it was. Lynn Julian, who suffered a traumatic brain injury and was left with hearing loss and PTSD, said, “I regret ever wanting him to speak. What he said showed no remorse, no regret, no empathy.”
