Texas Police Deny Editing Video Footage of Sandra Bland’s Death

State trooper Brian Encinia is Seen on the Video Trying to Forcefully Remove Bland from her Vehicle.

Black activist Sandra Bland was found dead in her cell in Waller County, Texas after hanging herself.  She was originally arrested for failing to signal a turn.  A confrontation then occurred between Bland and state trooper Brian Encinia.  But the official video that the police released never shows Bland kicking Encinia, like he claimed.  The video also reportedly shows cars disappearing and reappearing, leading to claims it was doctored.

Ava DuVernay, the director of the Oscar-nominated film Selma, took to Twitter to say, “I edit footage for a living.  But anyone can see that this official video has been cut.”  The police department denied the claims, saying some of the video was “affected in the upload” and that the issue is now being “addressed.”
