A bitter former employee shot and killed reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward on live TV. Parker was interviewing local Vicki Gardner in Moneta, Virginia for WDBJ when the shooting occurred. Vester Lee Flanagan II, a former employee of WDBJ, sent a 23-page suicide note to the station, mentioning he was inspired by the Charleston shooting earlier this year.
Flanagan shot himself after the attack and died of his wounds hours later. Gardner was hit in the back, but survived and was taken to a local hospital for surgery. In the live broadcast, gunshots rang out before the camera fell to the floor and the station cut back to the morning anchor, who had a look of shock on her face.
