University of Tennessee Staff and Students Told to Stop Using “He” and “She”

The Conversion Table Emailed to Staff

A gay rights official at the University of Tennessee has issued a statement telling staff and students to stop using “he” and “she” when talking to each other.  Instead, “gender neutral” terms should be used.  Examples of these, according to the statement, are “xe” and “zir”.

The statement was sent to its members and will make the campus “welcome and inclusive” instead of making people feel “marginalized.”.  After the statement was widely ridiculed, the university made it clear that the rules were voluntary.
