Drowning Refugee Rescued Off Greek Island After 13 Hours in the Sea

The Former Model Cradles the Refugee in her Arms

Former model Sandra Tsiligeridu was coming back to the mainland from the island of Pserimos, off Greece, when she came across Mohamed Besmar in the water.  The Syrian refugee had managed to survive the sinking of a boat, in which 11 others died.  He had been in the water for 13 hours when Tsiligeridu found him.

The former model said Besmar had taught her “the value of human life”.  The boat had initially avoided Besmar because they thought he was a diver, but Tsiligeridu noticed he was in distress and the boat turned around to rescue him.
