Pope Francis Calls on European Churches to Take in Refugee Families

Pope Francis Said Churches Needed to Give Refugees “Concrete Hope”.

Pope Francis has announced that the Vatican will take in two refugee families, and has called on churches throughout Europe to do the same.  He urged all Catholic parishes, convents, and monasteries, to take in at least one refugee family.  He used the Vatican as an example, saying they will house two refugee families “fleeing death.”

Pope Francis is the grandson of Italian emigrants to Argentina.  He said it was not enough to tell the refugees to “have courage, hang in there.”  He also said, “the Gospel calls us to be neighbors to the smallest and most abandoned.”
