Germany has halted all trains from Austria and reinstated border controls after a massive influx of refugees. The open border Schengen agreement was temporarily suspended after tens of thousands of refugees arrived in only the last few days. It’s unknown how long the suspension will last.
Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said, “The aim of these measures is to limit the current inflows to Germany and to return to orderly procedures enter the country. This step has become necessary. The great readiness to help that Germany has shown in recent weeks must not be overstretched.”
