Police have arrested five frat members of Pi Delta Psi, at Baruch College, in connection with the 2013 hazing death of freshman Michael Deng. Among those arrested was the frat’s former president Andy Meng, the brother of New York Congresswoman Grace Meng. A grand jury recommended charges for 37 people in the case.
Deng fell unconscious during a brutal hazing ritual in 2013 and frat members waited over an hour before taking him to hospital. In the ritual, Deng was blindfolded, given a heavy backpack, and then repeatedly tackled. After he began having trouble breathing, the frat members carried him inside, changed his clothes, and tried to search his symptoms on Google before finally taking him to the hospital, where he died.
