Pope Francis Shakes Hands With Cuban President Raul Castro
Pope Francis was greeted by President Raul Castro and a large crowd of emotional Cubans as he arrived in Havana. He praised the thawing of tension between the United States and Cuba, saying, “for some months now, we have witnessed an event which fills with hope – the process of normalizing relations.”
Pope Francis will spend three days in Cuba before flying to the US. He will then become the first Pope to speak before the US Congress, as well as proclaim the first saint on US soil. It is Pope Francis’ first trips to both Cuba and the United States.
