Well-wishers have donated over $600,000 to help Chris Mintz help may for his medical bills. Mintz has been hailed as a hero after charging at the gunman in the deadly shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. In the process, Mintz was shot seven times and he now faces multiple surgeries and having to learn to walk all over again.
But from his hospital bed, Mintz said “I just hope everyone else is OK.” His cousin set up a GoFundMe page asking for only $10,000 for Mintz’s medical bills, but the generosity for the hero quickly poured in. Mintz begged with the gunman as he charged, saying it was his son’s birthday. That was the truth, as it was his 6-year old autistic, non-verbal son Tyrik’s birthday.
