Ted Cruz shot to front-runner status in Iowa after a new poll showed he had leaped above Donald Trump. Cruz leads the poll with 31%, with a healthy lead over second-placed Trump, who has 21%. Iowa is traditionally more conservative and Evangelical than the country as a whole, which bodes well for Cruz.
The poll was conducted by long-time Iowa pollster Ann Selzer, and it is seen as a respected measure of how the state is likely. Cruz has been steadily climbing in polls since calling out CNBC moderators for their bias questions in late October. Iowa will vote in less than two months, on February 1st.
