A tragic freak accident left Claudia Huber dead after her husband shot her by mistake. Huber was being mauled by a bear outside their home in Johnson’s Crossing, in Yukon, Canada. Her husband, Matthias Liniger, tried to shoot the bear to protect her. He was able to shoot and kill the bear, but one of his bullets hit a tree and ricocheted off, hitting his wife.
Yukon’s chief coroner, Kirsten Macdonald said what happened was “an absolute, catastrophic collision of events.” According to Macdonald’s report, Huber had tried to play dead when the beat attack. Experts say this is a myth and the best option is actually to try and fight back against the bear. The report called for better education for bear attacks in Canada.
